some of the later day recordings, the stuff from the in-ear monitors, showed a bit of the back and forth bantering and riffing clueing that they well as the request for a particular song in the teleprompter.

In the days before such convieniences, they would talk back and forth with the instruments. That was the part of the show where us song guessers would listen for the smallest little riff to ID which song was next...and start calling out the guess. Just another aspect of a GD show.

I remeber a show - but not which one - maybe in Hartford - where Jerry comes out and hits an obvious riff from Scarlet and the whole audience reactes and starts dancing even before the song has actually started...Oh man I miss that kind of stuff!

I agree - one of the funnest parts of a show

Listening for tuning clues and calling out a guess!!

People around - not as experienced would be like "How'd he know that"
